Men's Basketball Drops Close Game to No.12 Cornerstone

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's basketball team fell to Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) opponent Cornerstone, on Wednesday night. DeMarco Dickerson (Senior, Detroit, Mich.) led the Saints with 31 points, three assists, four steals, and seven rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Saints jumped out to a seven-point lead (13-6) after a three-point shot was good by Dickerson at the 15:59 mark. The Golden Eagles answered back as they cut the deficit to three (20-17) after a three-point shot was made by Carter Nyp with 10:55 left of play. SHU gained a nine-point lead over Cornerstone (29-20) after a layup and a free throw were good by Anthony Duncan (Freshman, Kissimmee, Fla.) with 5:58 left on the clock. The Golden Eagles scored eight straight points to gain a one-point lead (30-29) over the Saints with 3:46 remaining. The remainder of the half had lead and possession changes until Kevin Smith II (Senior, Columbus, Ohio) drained a three-point shot to give SHU the 40-37 lead at intermission.

The second half was neck and neck between both teams then Cornerstone gained some momentum as they earned a seven-point lead (51-44) after a three-point shot was made by Christian Rodriquez at the 14:52 mark. The Saints rallied to cut the deficit to two points (55-53) after Dickerson made a layup with 12:29 left to play. The Golden Eagles held the first double-digit lead of the game (65-55) after a layup was good by Rodriguez at 8:29 on the clock. Cornerstone continued to put up shots but SHU pushed the score to 74-71 with 43 seconds left in the game. Tyler Baker made a free throw for the Golden Eagles to update the score to 75-71. A buzzer-beater three-point shot was made by Dickerson but it wasn't enough as Cornerstone walked away with the 75-74 victory.

TOP SAINTS

• Dickerson shot 11-18 from the floor and 7-7 from the charity stripe.

• Smith had 13 points, went 4-6 from the floor, and 3-3 from the charity stripe.

Keith Jordan Jr. (Senior, Toledo, Ohio) had nine points, seven rebounds, three assists, two blocks, and went 7-8 from the charity stripe.

THE OPPOSITION

• Christian Rodriguez led the Golden Eagles with 32 points, seven rebounds, and two assists.

• Tyler Baker had 12 points and two assists.

• Cory Ainsworth had 11 points, three rebounds, and one assist.

The Saints face Ohio Christian on Friday, November 22nd as they travel to the Rio Grande Classic. The game is scheduled to tip-off at 5:30 p.m., EST.
