Siena Heights Men Struggle Against Tough Crusader Squad

LIVONIA, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's basketball team suffered an 87-41 loss to Madonna in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Saturday.

Jerrell Martin had eight points and five rebounds for the Saints (10-16, 6-12), who enjoyed an early 12-10 lead before struggling the rest of the way.

Madonna scored the game's first eight points before five different SHU scorers contributed to the Saints' 12-2 run that put them ahead, 12-10.

The Crusaders (18-8, 14-4) then answered with 15 consecutive points -- the beginning of a 25-4 stretch -- and took a 35-16 advantage into halftime. SHU's deficit remained in double-digits the rest of the night.

Travis Schuba was Madonna's leading scorer, finishing with 14 points. Zak Lewis added 12 points, Donald Owens and Tyler Stewart had 11 apiece, and Bobby Naubert finished with 10 points and eight assists. Also for the Crusaders, Schmitz and Derek Lennen grabbed seven rebounds each.

SHU will be in action again on Wednesday when it plays its regular-season home finale -- a 8 p.m. WHAC contest against Marygrove.
