Women's Volleyball Falls to #18 Madonna in WHAC Contest

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's volleyball team hosted No. 18 Madonna on Friday and dropped the match in three sets. Set scores were 25-23, 25-16 and 25-18.

Paige Hudgin led the Saints (18-9, 6-6 WHAC) with eight kills and also added nine digs. Amanda Metz dished out 24 assists in the match.

Gabrielle Kalugar was the SHU leader with ten digs while Libby Breton assisted on blocking seven Crusader attacks. Breton was followed closely by Abby Whitehead with five assisted blocks.

Madonna (26-5, 11-1 WHAC) was paced by Karlie Kelly and Miranda Fuerst who both finished with 15 kills. Lauren Korth led MU with 42 assists and Deanna Krumholz completed the match with 32 digs.

SET-BY-SET

Set one: Siena Heights 23, Madonna 25
SHU had a hot start jumping out to a 4-1 lead until the Crusaders responded and stretched the lead to four at 11-7. The Saints fought back and tied the score mulitple times but did not have enough to regain advantage.

Set two: Siena Heights 16, Madonna 25
Madonna had control from the beginning after starting the set on a 6-0 run. Siena Heights found themselves with a nine point deficit at 12-3 and wasnt able to recover.

Set three: Siena Heights 18, Madonna 25
Scoring and runs were traded throughout the set. After a couple small runs by Madonna, they were able to take a 20-17 lead over the Saints. MU went on a 6-0 run to finish off the set and match victory.

Next up, the Siena Heights women's volleyball team will take on UM-Dearborn in a WHAC match up on Saturday, Oct. 22. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
