Marissa Cirino Named CoSIDA Academic All-District Women's At-Large

GREENWOOD, Ind. -- The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District® Women's At-Large teams on Thursday afternoon (July 8). Siena Heights senior women's lacrosse player Marissa Cirino was among the 15 student-athletes from six different sports chosen to the NAIA-District 1 squad.

Cirino adds this award to an already fantastic junior campaign where she has compiled several awards. She was chosen NAIA First-Team All-America as well as the 2021 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Women's Lacrosse Offensive Player of the Year, a First-Team All-WHAC selection, and a place on the All-Academic squad. She earned WHAC Offensive Player of the Week three weeks in a row and NAIA Offensive Player of the Week two times.

Cirino ranks 5th in the NAIA in goals per game (4.4), 5th in SOG per game (6.5), 6th in points per game (6.1), 12th in shots per game (7.5), 14th in total goals (44), 19th in total shots on goal (65), 23rd in assists per game (1.7), 28th in total shots (75), and 32nd in total assists (17). Marissa led the team in goals (44), assists (17), points (61), shots (75), and shots on goal (65). She was second on the team in ground balls (28). She tied program history in the record for the most goals in a single game as she tallied 10 goals in the game against Indiana Tech.

"Marissa is a player that can play both ways," said head coach Alexa Matta. "She is dynamite all over the field and a ground ball machine. She has great field vision and is always working to make herself better. Marissa is a key player for us on both sides of the field."

The 2020-21 Academic All-District® Men's and Women's At-Large Teams, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances in athletic competition and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program separately recognizes honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, and NAIA.

First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® ballot. First-, second and third-team Academic All-America® honorees will be announced in early August.

Cirino was one of four women's lacrosse players and one of three student-athletes from the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) to earn a spot on the all-district team. The other sports represented on the list were bowling, golf, tennis, competitive dance, and wrestling.
