Adrian, Mich.  – The Siena Heights women's lacrosse team took on Lourdes for the opening round of the Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament. The Saints beat the Grey Wolves by a score of 17-10.

HOW IT HAPPENED

SHU got on the scoreboard first to start the game two minutes in. Natalie Williams scored the goal for Siena but Lourdes would scored two minutes later to even the score at 1-1. Williams scored again to go back taking the lead 2-1 but once again the Grey Wolves even it out at 2. This time it was Samantha Pawlowski who had to go ahead goal to put the Saints up 3-2. Within 30 seconds of Pawlowski's goal, Lourdes scored a goal to tie it up again then they scored a goal to go ahead with 4-3 with 20 minutes to play in the half. The Grey Wolves lead didn't last long when SHU went on a five goal streak to get back ahead. Alexis Nicole had back to back goals all in 17 seconds of each other. Kristin Delclos added a goal to push the lead to 6-4. Katherine Tapia and Lauren Kombol each scored a goal to wrap up the Saints five goal streak. With the score at 8-4, Lourdes got a goal back but then Pawlowski netted a ball on a free position shot. With eight minutes to play Lourdes capitalized on a man up chance and scored to make the game 9-6. Nicole and Jenna Sommerville both scored within 10 minutes of the end of the half but the Grey Wolves scored last heading into halftime. SHU lead 11-7 with the final half to play.

In the second half, Lourdes opened up the scoring but Siena added two more goal after that from Williams and Nicole. 15 minutes left in the game and Lourdes got another goal to make the game 13-9. SHU finished the game on a 4-1 run with two goals by Pawlowski, a goal by Williams, and a free position goal by Kombol. SHU won the game 17-10 and will advance farther into the WHAC tournament.
