Saints Get First WHAC Win of Season

Adrian, Mich. – The Siena Heights women's lacrosse team won their first WHAC contest of the year.

Records: SHU (3-6, 1-1) Concordia (6-2, 2-1)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Siena Heights took on Concordia for a WHAC match up today. SHU got out to an early two goal lead on goals from Samantha Pawlowski and Jenna Sommerville. The Cardinals were able to get a goal back in with 24 minutes left in the first half to make it 2-1. Katherine Tapia added another goal for SHU but shortly after CUAA scored again. With 16 minutes left in the half the score was 3-2. The Saints got back to back goals courtesy of Sommerville and Natalie Williams to extend the lead to three goals. The Cardinals scored again but then a four goal spree happened for SHU. Pawlowski, Nicole, Mackenzie Fisette, and another goal by Nicole made the game 9-3. CUAA would score two more goals in before the half ended making it 9-4 going into halftime.

In the second half Concordia got out to an early goal but Alexis Nicole responded by equaling out the goal for SHU. Then SHU and CUAA traded a pair of goals when the Cardinals scored but shortly after Sommerville added another goal to make the game 11-7. Concordia scored again however after that Williams added to her total goals on the game and kept the Saints lead to four goals with 22 minutes left in the half. Siena's lead was cut down to three when Concorida scored with 16 minutes left in the game. SHU got that lead back to four when Williams scored her third goal of the game. The Saints extended the lead to five goals after Pawlowski netted a ball to make the game 14-9. Not long after Pawlowski scored again to make her a total of four goals on the day so far. Then SHU kept scoring as Sommerville had back to back goals to make the game 17-9 with 6 minutes left to play. The Cardinals got a two goals back to make it 17-11 with two minutes to play in the game. Concordia however could not make a comeback and they fell short.
