Ava Maria, Fla. – The Siena Heights women's lacrosse team got their first win of the season over Ava Maria.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Saints took on the Gyrenes on a warm Florida afternoon. Ava Maria got off to a two goal lead but SHU came storming back. A goal by Alexis Nichole would put the Saints within one goal. After the Gyrenes scored again to make it 3-1, Jenna Sommerville scored to make it a 3-2 game. Then Kristin Delclos netted a ball on a free position goal. The game was tied 3-3 when Ava scored another one to go back on top 4-3. But the pattern continued because Siena's Samantha Pawlowski scored to tie the game back up.

From that point in the game with 17 minutes left, SHU scored three goals in a row by Nichole, Katherine Tapia, and Pawlowski. The game was 7-4 when Ava Maria scored their fifth goal. As the half would wrap up Siena came out and scored four more goals. Three of those goals were scored by Nichole and the other by Mackenzie Fisette. The score was 11-6 heading into half time.

The second half started out by a goal from Ava Maria but followed with another goal from Pawlowski to make the game 12-7. With 15 and 16 minutes left in the game Nichole would score her 6th and 7th goals of the game. Natalie Williams got a goal for Siena to make the game 15-9 with 13 minutes left to play. The Gyrenes would try to make a come back by scoring three goals in row but Nichole had another goal and time ran out for a final score of 16-12.
