Peyton Banks Earns First Team All-America, Demi Russell Named To Third Team

KANSAS CITY -- Siena Heights women's basketball had two players named to the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Division II Women's Basketball All-American teams on Thursday afternoon when the national office announced the selections. Peyton Banks (Wadsworth, Ohio) became the second SHU women's basketball player to earn a place on the first team while Demi Russell (Toledo, Ohio) made the third team.

Banks finished the season first in the nation in free-throw percentage (0.928). She finished in the top 25 in field-goal percentage (21st, 0.522), total scoring (23rd, 524), and total rebounds (24th, 278). She led the team in scoring with 15.9 points per game and 8.4 rebounds per game. She also tallied 12 double-doubles on the season. She also scored a career-high 34 points against Concordia (Mich.). Banks was named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) women's basketball player of the year and first-team All-WHAC. She was named the conference player of the week four times which tied for the most among all WHAC women's basketball players this season. 

Russell was top 25 in statistical rankings for field-goal percentage with 0.534 for 14th in the country. She was second on the team with 15.1 points per game and 6.9 rebounds per game. She was also was chosen the WHAC player of the week once during her final season in a Saints uniform.

"Peyton and Demi have been constants for our program this year," stated head coach Sue Syljebeck. "If any team was able to stop one of them, the other stepped up as it was hard to stop one let alone both of them. They were arguably the best post duo in the conference and maybe in the country."
