#14 Saints Roll Through Cornerstone on the Road

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The 14th-ranked Saints women's basketball team rolled through Cornerstone on the road 82-46 to improve to 12-0 in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) play and 20-1 overall. Demi Russell (Toledo, Ohio) led Siena Heights with an 18-point, 11-rebound double-double.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The score was close through most of the opening quarter. However, Siena Heights was able to build a 23-15 lead once the buzzer signaled the end of the first. The Saints held Cornerstone under 20 points scoring in each of the four quarters and held a 50-26 lead at half time. Both the third and fourth quarters were low scoring as the Saints scored only 15 points in the third and 17 in the fourth while holding the Golden Eagles to just 10 in each 10-minute period of the second half.

With the win, Siena Heights extends its winning streak to 14 and remains unbeaten in the year 2020. The Saints shot 43.1% (31-72) from the floor and outrebounded Cornerstone 47-35. Siena Heights also led 11-10 in assists, 27-3 in points off turnovers, 21-9 in second-chance points, 44-16 in points in the paint, 10-0 in fastbreak points, and 33-18 in bench points. The score was tied twice and there were two lead changes. The Saints largest lead of 42 points came with 4:09 left in the fourth; The Golden Eagles held a three-point lead at 8:15 in the first.

TOP SAINTS

• Russell finished 9-13 shooting. She also had an assist, a steal, and a block.

Peyton Banks (Wadsworth, Ohio) tallied 13 points, four rebounds, and three steals.

Kelsey Wyman (Blissfield, Mich.) scored 11 points and hauled in six rebounds off the bench for SHU.

THE OPPOSITION

• Shelby Nyboer led Cornerstone with 12 points.

• Rebekah Crosby had six rebounds to go with her five points and two assists.

UP NEXT

The No. 14 Saints stay on the road Saturday, January 25 for a matchup with 13th-ranked Indiana Tech at 1:00 p.m., EST. The Saints will look to sweep the season series after winning the meeting against the Warriors 79-75 back on December 7.
