McNeal Double-Double Helps Lift Women's Basketball Over Indiana University-Kokomo

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's basketball team hosted Indiana University-Kokomo on Friday in a non-conference contest. The Saints won the contest, 73-60, extending their current win streak to five games.

The Cougars opened the contest scoring the first eight straight points. The Saints were able to answer and tie the game with two minutes remaining in the first quarter. Baskets were traded throughout the second period, but by the end, Siena Heights was able to open the gap to lead 36-28 entering halftime.

SHU stayed in control through the third period but IUK was not finished. With 6:21 left in the fourth, IU-Kokomo cut the Saints' lead to five points. But Siena Heights was able to hang on and expand their lead and walk away with the victory.

The Saints shot 28-56 (50%) from the floor, 6-15 (40%) from three and 11-21 (52.4%) from the free throw line. The Cougars finished 22-71 (31%) from the field, 6-24 (25%) from behind the arc and 10-13 (76.9%) from the charity stripe.

Helping the Saints with a double-double was Taylar McNeal, scoring 12 points and grabbing a career high, 19 rebounds. Leading the team in scoring was Azalea Miller and Demi Russell each with 16. Alyssa Larson added 13 points for SHU. Miller also dished out a team high, four assists while Clara Waidley finished with three steals.

Leading the Cougars was Deja Felder with 32 points. TeSeandra Parker led IUK with eight rebounds and Tabitha DeWitt contributed four assists.

Next up, Siena Heights will travel to take on Aquinas in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday, Jan. 3. Tip off is set for 6 p.m.
