#25 Women's Hoops Almost Upsets #6 Davenport

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The 25th-ranked Siena Heights women's basketball team almost upset No. 6 Davenport in a 83-81 loss in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest, on Wednesday.

The Saints led at the end of the first quarter 28-25 and continued their lead throughout the first half, leading 45-41 at halftime.

With 3:16 remaining in the third quarter, the Panthers caught the Saints 57-57 and extended their lead to 66-60 ath the end of the third. DU went on an 8-0 run at the beginning of the fourth, setting the Saints back 74-62. Ashley Perry scored nine for SHU in the remaining minutes to get the Saints within one, 80-79.

Watson made a layup with 00:57 left on the clock to put Siena Heights on top at 81-80. With eight seconds left, the Panthers made a layup and a last second free throw to finalize the score at 83-81.

Leading SHU (21-8, 14-7 WHAC) with 29 points was April Watson, also adding ten rebounds, three blocks and a steal. Perry finished with 18 points for SHU and two steals while Jaaliyah Arrington tacked on 16 points.

Davenport (27-2, 21-0 WHAC) was led by Emily Severn and Mallory Sewell with 18 and 17 points, respectively. Chri Carter added 10 points and six assists for the Panthers.

The Saints will be back in action on Saturday when they take on Lourdes in their regular season finale. Tip-off for the WHAC contest is set for 5:30 p.m.
