Women's Basketball Takes Down #13 Purdue Northwest in Final Game of SHU Thanksgiving Classic

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's basketball team hosted No. 13 Purdue Northwest (Ind.) in a non-conference contest in the second game of the Siena Heights Thanksgiving Classic. The Saints took down the Pride, 82-70. Also competing in the Classic were Keiser (Fla.) and Governor's State (Ill.).

Game one: Keiser 75, Governor's State 53
Keiser (6-3 overall) walked away with the victory, making them 1-1 in the Classic. Governor's State (2-4 overall) finished 0-2 in the SHU Thanksgiving Classic.

Leading the Seahawks was Dominique Winbush with 18 points and ten rebounds. Princess Cole contributed 10 points and seven rebounds.

The Jaguars were led by Amber Brooks with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Marlynda Bishop added 10 points.

Game two: Siena Heights 82, No. 13 Purdue Northwest 70
To begin the game, Siena Heights (4-4 overall) started off on an 8-0 run after a made lay-up by April Watson then a made three-pointer by Jaaliyah Arrington and Clara Waidley. After one, the Saints were leading 22-14.

In the second quarter, SHU maintained control and with 5:05 left in the second, they reached their largest lead of the first half at 14 points. At halftime, Siena Heights held onto a 42-33 advantage.

The Saints scored the first bucket of the third period on a made lay-up by Sharmaine Wills and never looked back from there. After three, Siena Heights was feeling confident, up 63-51.

In the fourth quarter the Saints were able to put the Seahawks (7-3 overall) away and coast to the victory after creating a 17 point advantage with 4:01 left in the game.

SHU finished 2-0 in the Classic while PNW finished 1-1.

Leading the Saints was April Watson with 27 points and 11 rebounds. Clara Waidley added 18 points and seven rebounds while shooting an outstanding 75% (6-8) from three. Jaaliyah Arrington also contributed 13 points and seven assists.

Cassidy Deno led PNW with 26 points and four rebounds. Darien Thompson added 13 points and six rebounds.
