Upcoming for the Saints: The Siena Heights softball team makes a short trip to face Spring Arbor in a doubleheader on Wednesday before head each to Pittsburgh, Pa. for two doubleheaders in as many days. Day one is a pair of games against Point Part on Saturday. The weekend rounds out with two games against Carlow on Sunday.
Head Coach: Laura Klutsarits enters her 16th season with the Saints. Klutsarits has the most wins in program history with 313. She achieved her 300th win in the WHAC tournament semifinals with a 5-3 win over Indiana Tech.
Defending Champions: The Saints are the defending WHAC Tournament champions as they won the 2019 championship. Siena used wins over Cleary (4-0), Indiana Tech (5-3), and UNOH (6-4) to win the title.
No Spring Break Trip: Traditionally, the Saint softball program has taken a trip to Arizona or Florida during Spring Break, however, due to COVID, those trips were canceled this year. In place of the trip are two weekends of travel for the team. This weekend wraps up the unconventional "Spring Games."
WHAC Pitcher of the Week: Junior pitcher Kelsey Uhl was named the WHAC softball pitcher of the week by the league office on Monday afternoon. Uhl won both games she pitched - one being a 1-0 shutout win in which she allowed only two hits while striking out six. She had a perfect game through four before an error broke up that streak followed by a single hit in both the fifth and sixth innings. Her second game would have been another shutout without three unearned runs in one inning. Allowed nine hits in the second start, striking out one. In fourteen innings pitched - struck out a total of seven and got another 23 ground ball outs. This is Kelsey's second WHAC Pitcher of the week award of her collegiate career, first this season.
Last Week Recap: SHU 1-5, Hannibal-LaGrange 0-3
The Saints used strong pitching to sweep host Hannibal-LaGrange 1-0 and 5-3 Friday in non-conference action. Kelsey Uhl tossed a two-hit shutout in the opener, striking out six, with Sam Hill collecting two hits and scoring the game's only run. Hill added three more hits in game two, with Jordan Green pitching the first five innings for the win. Kiley Elboar earned the save for SHU.
SHU 4-0, Hannibal-LaGrange 3-3
The Saints (5-3) split with Hannibal-LaGrange on Saturday, winning the opener 4-3 and falling 3-0 in game two. Kelsey Uhl had a two-run double and earned the complete-game victory in the opener. Jordan Green suffered the loss in game two as SHU managed just three hits.
