Softball Falls 4-3 at Lawrence Tech in 11 Innings

FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team lost 4-3 on the road against Lawrence Tech in a game that went 11 innings. Game two was not played due to darkness. Racquel Ward led the Saints with two hits in the game.

Records: Lawrence Tech (29-7-1, 11-5-1 WHAC), Siena Heights (29-12, 13-4 WHAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Blue Devils took a 1-0 lead with a single to center field that scored a run. A two-run home run two batters later extended the lead to 3-0 nothing.

Lily Guerra hit a home run to lead off the 6th-inning to bring the Saints within two runs of tying the game. A Lawrence Tech error allowed Kayla Boland and Kelsey Uhl to score for the 3-3 tie.

Neither team was able to cross home plate through seven innings forcing the teams to go to extra innings to find a winner. The Blue Devils finished the game with a single to center field that scored a run for the 4-3 decision in the 11th-inning.

SAINT HITTING

Ashley Helmink, Taylor Mowery, Guerra, Uhl, and Boland each had a hit for the Saints.

Hayley Turk led Siena with two RBIs in the game.

SAINT PITCHING

• Ward (L, 15-6) pitched 10.2 innings and gave up 10 hits and three earned runs while striking out six Lawrence Tech batters.

OPPOSITION HITTING

• Sarah Hige, Brittney Bult, and Brittany Wieland each tallied two hits in the game. 

• Wieland led the Blue Devils with two RBIs.

OPPOSITION PITCHING

• Bult (W, 9-3) pitched a complete game for LTU. She allowed eight hits and one earned run while striking out five Saints.

Siena Heights travels to Fort Wayne, Indiana to face Indiana Tech in a WHAC doubleheader on Saturday, April 20. Game one is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m.
