Softball Sends Madonna Home, Ends Season With Loss to Lourdes

The Siena Heights Softball Team won their first elimination game in the WHAC Tournament, ending Madonna's season by a score of 9-4 before dropping their second game to Lourdes and ending their season with a 6-12 loss.

In game one, SHU jumped out to a 4-0 lead with four runs in the top of the first.  The score remained 4-0 until the top of the 6th when SHU tacked on a solo run.  After Madonna scored two in the bottom of the 6th, SHU responded with four in the top of the 7th before MU capped out the scoring with two in the bottom of the 7th for the final of 9-4.

SHU had 12 hits on the game.  Kenya Keller led the way with a 3-4 game with 4 RBI and a double.  Kelsey Cherry and Megan Jones each added two hits, Jones had two RBI, while Cherry had one RBI and a double.  Kyndle Wolfinger, Kelsie AbbottKris Forest, Katie Hyble, and Hannah Bleikamp each had individual hits for the Saints.  Hybl's hit was a double and Bleikamp had a solo homerun.

Abbott threw the complete game, scattering eight hits, allowing only one earned run and striking out two.

In game two, the Saints fell behind early, giving up four first inning runs.  They battled back and tied the game at four in the top of the second.  Lourdes responded with two in the bottom of the second, with SHU tying the game at 6 in the top of the 5th.  Unfortunately, Lourdes put six runs across in the bottom of the sixth for the final tally of 12-6.

The Saints were outhit by a margin of 17-7 on the game.  Jones had two hits for the Saints with Forest adding a hit and Keller adding three hits and two RBI.  Hailey Fox added the final hit for the Saints and had two RBI as well. 

Lesley Ducat started the game on the mound, throwing the first two innings.  Abbott came in and threw the next three plus innings, taking the loss, Arica Vasquez finished out the sixth inning on the mound.

With the loss to Lourdes, the Saints' season comes to an end, finishing fourth in the WHAC Tournament.  The Saints end their year at 28-24 overall.  With 28 wins, the Saints have the most wins in a season since 1996 when they won 35 games.  The 28 wins also stand as sixth highest win total in the school's history.
