Softball Sweeps Doubleheader at Indiana Tech

NEW HAVEN, Ind. -- The Siena Heights softball team swept a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader against Indiana Tech, 3-1 and 10-6, on Saturday. Kelsie Abbott was the winning pitcher in both games.

Hannah Bleikamp went 3-for-3 while Megan Jones finished 2-for-3 with a double, run and stolen base for the Saints (15-12, 3-5).

Also for SHU, Taylor Hayes doubled and Mariah Boss stole two bases.

The Saints took a three-run lead in the first inning and led the entire way. Hayes smacked an RBI double, Bleikamp drew a bases-loaded walk and Bitty Treece had a sacrifice fly.

Abbott gave up one run on six hits in the circle while finishing with five strikeouts and one walk.

Jenevie Rivas and Alli Watson went 2-for-3 for Indiana Tech. James Kilps was the losing pitcher, giving up three runs on eight hits. She had four strikeouts, five walks and one hit batter.

Game two lasted 12 innings before the Saints won with four runs in the 12th.

Abbott led SHU's 18-hit attack, going 4-for-7 with a triple, stolen base and two runs. Jones was 3-for-5 with a run and two RBI while Morgan Warfield finished 3-for-7 with two RBI and a stolen base.

Hayes (homer, three RBI), Wolfinger and Crenshaw (two runs) had two-hit games.

Jones had an RBI single in the Saints' one-run first inning. During SHU's five-run third, Hayes had an RBI single and Jones smashed a two-run homer.

The 12th inning was highlighted by two-run singles by both Hayes and Warfield.

Rivas and Sofia Johantgen had three hits each for the Warriors (11-18, 0-8). Tori Simper suffered the loss.

Abbott threw five innings in relief of Warfield, who was the starting pitcher. Warfield gave up six runs on seven hits, and finished with four strikeouts and four walks. Abbott did not allow a run and compiled six strikeouts and two walks.

Siena Heights will return to action on Sunday with a doubleheader at WHAC opponent Northwestern Ohio.
