Softball Wins One, Loses One at Lourdes

SYLVANIA, Ohio -- The Siena Heights softball team split a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader with Lourdes (Ohio), winning game one, 8-6, and losing two, 10-2, on Wednesday.

Kelsie Abbott led the way in game one, batting 2-for-3 with two doubles and three runs. She was also the winning pitcher, giving up six runs (four earned) on 10 hits while recording three strikeouts, two walks and one hit batsman.

Megan Jones added a 2-for-4 game with a run and three RBI while Mariah Boss went 2-for-4 with a run and RBI.

The Saints (13-10, 1-3) jumped on Lourdes in the first inning, pushing across five runs, and led the rest of the way. Jones had a two-run single, Warfield cranked a two-run triple and Skylar Crenshaw ripped an RBI single.

Jones and Boss added RBI singles in the second and fifth innings, respectively. The Saints also scored a run in the fourth on an error.

LU had a trio of two-run innings: the first, fourth and sixth. Megan Mosiniak went 2-for-3 with a triple, run and three RBI. Alyssa Schaub added a 2-for-3 game with two runs. Ashley Yeager doubled and scored two runs.

Lourdes' Sam Merillat was the losing pitcher. Samantha Shirling worked the final 5 2/3 frames without allowing an earned run.

The host Gray Wolves (3-3, 1-1) won game two in six innings. After building a 5-2 lead, they scored five times in the sixth to enact the run rule.

SHU's two runs came in the second on an RBI single by Crenshaw and an RBI double by Tiffany Jones. At that point, the Saints grabbed 2-1 lead.

LU then scored twice in the third and twice in the fifth before finishing the game in the sixth.

Megan Jones went 2-for-3 for SHU in support of losing pitcher Morgan Warfield.

Mosiniak was 2-for-4 with a triple, run and RBI for Lourdes. Schaub added a 2-for-3 game with three runs.

Brooke Gallaher earned the win in the circle, giving up two runs on five hits while recording four strikeouts and one walk.

The Saints will return to action on Saturday with a WHAC doubleheader against Michigan-Dearborn at 1 p.m.
