Abbott Stars in Softball's Win over Robert Morris

CHICAGO, Ill. -- Kelsie Abbott was Siena Heights' leading offensive performer, batting 4-for-5, and earned the win in the pitcher's circle as the Saints' softball team defeated Robert Morris (Ill.), 7-4, in nine innings on Sunday. The teams were scheduled to play a doubleheader, but inclement weather prevented game two.

Abbott had a double, run and four RBI at the plate. Her two-bagger drove in two runs, snapping a 4-4 tie in the ninth. In the circle, Abbott gave up four runs on 11 hits while recording seven strikeouts and three walks.

Also for SHU (12-8), Megan Jones batted 3-for-5 with two doubles and Taylor Hayes had two RBI. Mariah Boss and Hailey Fox scored two runs apiece.

Siena Heights grabbed one-run leads on three different occasions. Abbott had RBI singles in the third and fifth innings before Hayes smacked a run-scoring single in the Saints' seventh. Each time, RMU answered to tie the game at 1-1, 2-2 and 3-3.

Abbott put the Saints ahead for good in the ninth with her double. Hayes added a sac fly and Skylar Crenshaw ripped an RBI double to push SHU's advantage to 7-3.

The host Eagles scored their final run in the ninth before Abbott finished them off.

Cameron Briggs tripled, doubled and scored a run to lead the RMU offense. Joey Crockett added two htis and two RBI. Jori Boren was the losing pitcher, finishing with seven strikeouts and two walks.

Siena Heights will return to action on Wednesday with a 4 p.m. non-conference doubleheader at Spring Arbor.
