
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's volleyball team swept a non-conference match against NCAA Division III opponent Calvin on Friday night. Set scores were 25-16, 25-19, 27-25.
Jonathan Stovring had nine kills and three blocks while Zak Tucker added 18 assists and three blocks for the Saints (9-8).
Daniel Rua put down eight kills and smashed two aces. Dominic Rees added six kills.
SHU never trailed in either of the first two sets. In set No. 1, SHU jumped out to a 3-0 lead and, after Calvin closed within 9-8, went on a 9-2 stretch to pull away.
The Saints broke a 2-all tie and never looked back in the second set.
During the third, Siena Heights fell behind 5-1, but eventually answered a 23-19 deficit with a match-ending 8-2 run. Rees had three kills during the ending rally.
SHU will return to play at cross-town rival Adrian at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
