Men's Volleyball Holds On For Five-Set Win Over Goshen

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's volleyball team held on for a 3-2 win over WHAC opponent Goshen on Tuesday night at the SHU Fieldhouse. Set scores were 25-20, 25-20, 24-26, 17-25, 15-13.

Daniel Rua led the Saints' attack with 15 kills while Santiago Salazar put down 13. Jonathan Stovring added 12.

Rua and Dominic Rees smacked four aces apiece. Zak Tucker had 40 assts, two aces and six blocks.

Also at the net, Stovring and Andrew Sliwinski were in on five blocks each.

Siena Heights (5-5, 2-2) won the first two sets before dropping the next two and ultimately surging past Goshen in the fifth with a match-ending, 7-2 run.

The Saints stretched out a 21-12 run before holding off a late Maple Leaf surge in the first. SHU broke a 10-all tie in the second with a 6-1 run and led the rest of the way in that set.

Siena Heights led 23-22 in the third; Goshen then answered with a 4-1 run to extend the match.

The Maple Leafs ended the fourth on an 8-1 stretch and, then in the fifth, were up 11-8 before SHU closed with its decisive run.

Siena Heights will return to action on Friday with a 7:30 p.m. WHAC home match versus Bethel (Ind.).
