
OLIVET, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's volleyball team opened its season with a 3-1 win at NCAA Division III opponent Olivet on Monday night. Set scores were 25-18, 25-18, 19-25, 25-17.
Daniel Rua led the SHU offense with 19 kills while Jonathan Stovring put down 11. Zak Tucker handled 45 assists.
Tucker also had two aces and five blocks. Luke Anderson added eight kills.
On defense, Yeban Youn and Francesc Baza totaled 12 and 10 digs, respectively. Andrew Sliwinski had five blocks and Stovring was in on four.
SHU led most of the first set; the final tie was 3-3 before an 8-2 Saint stretch.
Leading 14-12 in the second, the Saints went on a 6-1 run to pull away.
The host Comets avoided a sweep with a 6-0 streak to end the third.
The Saints stole the momentum right back in the fourth, starting with five straight points. They led the rest of the way.
SHU (1-0) will return to action this weekend at the Rio Grande Invitational, beginning with matches against Rio Grande and Bluefield on Friday.
