Fernando Robison Named WHAC Defensive Player of the Year; Four Other Saints Given WHAC Awards

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Siena Heights men's lacrosse team claimed one individual award and four All-WHAC honors when the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference announced the yearly award winners on Monday morning. Fernando Robison was tabbed the WHAC Defensive Player of the Year while also being the faceoff man on the All-WHAC First Team. Jake Gallaher joined Robison on the first team, while Eric Csizmadia and Vinnie Jean were named to the All-WHAC second team. In addition, Brandon Hammer was the Saints representative on the WHAC Champions of Character squad.

Robison immediately impacted the team this season as he was the leading faceoff man for the Saints. He won a league-leading 262-358 in faceoffs for an incredible 73.1% winning percentage. He also led the WHAC in ground balls with 198. Both of those totals also lead the entire NAIA.

"Fernando took over the WHAC this year," said head coach Spencer Macek. "He is an excellent faceoff man who continues to improve. I look forward to seeing him his senior season."

Gallaher finished the year with 51 goals which ranked fourth in the WHAC. He led the Saints with 72 points this season which was second in the WHAC. He was a first-team All-WHAC selection his freshman season in 2019. Gallaher finishes his career with 165 points, 104 goals, 61 assists, and 196 ground balls. He ranks second in the SHU career records for ground balls and third all-time in points, goals, and assists.

"Jake does it all for us," said coach Macek. "He is an amazing lacrosse player and an even better person. Teams continue to game plan for him, and he continues to beat them."

Csizmadia was fifth in the league with 45 goals for the 2022 season. His 59 points were the second-highest on the team. His 11 man-up goals were the top mark for SHU while ranking second in the WHAC.

"Eric is a tremendous talent who still has so much room to grow," stated Macek. "I fully expect to see his improvement over the summer carry him to first-team honors or beyond."

Jean ended the season with the highest save percentage (.627) in the WHAC with the second-most saves. In addition, he was the only goalie in the conference to achieve ten wins in the net while holding the fourth-best goals-against average (9.13) in the league. Nationally his save percentage is second, saves are second, wins are tied for second, and his goals-against average is 13th.

"Vinnie continually kept us in games," said coach Macek. "Ending his career with 25 and 28 saves in his final two games. Our only player in team history to earn the full team vote for captain. He's a continuation of the long history of quality goalies at Siena Heights."
