at University of the Cumberlands Patriots
7 PM | Williamsburg, Ky. | UC Lacrosse/Soccer Complex

This Week for the Saints: The Siena Heights University men's lacrosse team kicks off the 2021 season with a road contest against the University of the Cumberlands on Saturday, March 6.

This will be the first lacrosse game for the Saints in 371 days when the team played at St. Ambrose on February 29, 2020.

Winning Tradition: Siena Heights is 84-51 all-time in men's lacrosse. The Saints are 7-9 the past two seasons (2020 was cut short after just two games due to COVID). SHU averages 8.4 wins and 5.1 losses a season during the first 10 seasons as a varsity sport.

Last Year Versus the Patriots: The Saints surrendered a 9-6 lead in the fourth quarter last year that allowed the Patriots to tie things up and force overtime. UC then tallied the game-winner in the sudden death overtime period to escape with an 11-10 win.

Jake Gallaher led Siena with four goals, one assist, two caused turnovers, and a game-high 10 ground balls. Garnet Potter scored a hat trick while scooping four ground balls and causing a turnover.

On the Road: Siena Heights is 35-30 all-time in road contests. They are 7-3 all-time in season-opening games and 5-2 in season openers that are on the road.

Opening Game Scoring: SHU has outscored opponents 122-80 in season-opening contests.

Breaking that down to openers on the road, the Saints have outscored opponents in those games 67-51.

WHAC Coaches' Preseason Poll: The Siena Heights men's lacrosse team was selected to finish fifth in the 2021 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic-Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll.

The preseason poll is voted on by the coaches in the league who rank the teams in the league from 1-9. 9 points are given to the team at the top of the list, 8 points to the second-ranked team, and so on to determine the order of the poll.

Indiana Tech tops the chart after receiving five of the nine first-place votes to total 77 points. Lawrence Tech was six points off the lead at 71 and registered three first-place points for second place. Aquinas was third gaining one first-place vote and finishing with 66 points. Madonna claimed fourth with 54 points and the Saints were fifth with 41. Lourdes checked in with 36 points for sixth place while Concordia (Mich.) was seventh with 27. UM-Dearborn (21) and Taylor (Ind.) (12) finished off the poll.

Season Outlook: The Saints have six games in the month of March beginning with a road contest at Cumberlands (Ky.). The following Saturday (March 13), SHU makes its home debut against Grand Valley State at 7:00 PM. That game kicks off three straight at home with Oakland coming to town on March 20 and Lourdes opening up WHAC play on the 24th. Siena then hits the road for conference games at Taylor (Ind.) (March 27) and Lawrence Tech (March 31).

April wraps up the regular season with five more matchups. Indiana Tech visits on April 3 before the Saints go to Concordia on the seventh. Madonna (April 10) and Aquinas (April 14) come to Siena before the season wraps up at Michigan-Dearborn on April 17.
