Holowaty Game-Winner Lifts #23 SHU Men's Lax To Season-Opening Win

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. -- John Holowaty tallied the game-winning goal with 39 seconds to go, lifting the 23rd-ranked Siena Heights men's lacrosse team to a 13-12 victory over Central Michigan on Saturday.

Holowaty finished with two goals and one assist while leading scorer Spencer Macek compiled five goals and two assists.

Tom Kreitzer scored three goals. Brennen Gohr, Adam Keay and Nate Woods contributed single goals. Woods also had an assist.

Ryan Mailloux earned the win in net. He had 17 saves.

The Saints led 7-3 at halftime -- and 9-8 through three quarters -- before increasing their advantage to 12-9 in the fourth. The host Chippewas (1-1) then connected for three consecutive goals, setting the stage for Holowaty's heroics.

Siena Heights had 29 shots while CMU finished with 23.

The Saints are currently scheduled to host Ferris State on Saturday, Mar. 8, at 2 p.m., but that contest may be moved to an alternative date.
