Webster Tallies 30 in SHU Men's Loss to Madonna

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Jamison Webster exploded for 30 points while Christian Covile and Eric Cogan chipped in with 24 and 20, respectively, but a second-half comeback effort fell short as the Siena Heights men's basketball team dropped a 93-83 decision to Madonna in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Saturday at the SHU Fieldhouse.

Vince Schantz grabbed nine rebounds, Edward Cold made seven assists, and Cogan and Covile grabbed seven rebounds each for the Saints (6-11, 2-7).

SHU fell behind, 8-0, to start the game with Madonna's charge being led by Donald Owens' six points. The Saints closed their gap to 21-19 before the Crusaders took a 46-31 advantage into halftime.

In the second half, Siena Heights trailed 59-43 and then charged back with a 17-2 run, including 13 points from Webster. MU quickly responded after that with an 11-point streak of its own as Derek Lennen and Bobby Naubert put in five points apiece for the visitors to get the Crusader lead to 72-60.

From there, the Saints pulled within five points at 88-83, but could not cut the deficit any more.

Naubert had 22 points to lead Madonna while Owens and Lennen contributed 17 points apiece. Owens also grabbed nine rebounds while Travis Schuba and Zak Lewis scored 13 and 11, respectively, for the Crusaders (10-6, 6-2).

Siena Heights will return to action on Wednesday with an 8 p.m. WHAC tip-off at Marygrove.
