Saints Football Has First Road Contest Against Saint Ambrose This Saturday

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The (22) Siena Heights football team (2-0) hits the road for the first time this season when they face Saint Ambrose (1-1) in Davenport, Iowa in a Mid-States Football Association (MSFA) crossover game this Saturday, September 21.

The Saints defeated Robert Morris (Ill.) 6-0 last week to begin the season with two wins. SHU scored on the team's opening drive of the game before dominating on the defensive side of the ball to secure the shutout win.

The Fighting Bees lost to (7) Marian (Ind.) 49-14 last week to fall to 1-1 on the year. SAU started the year 1-0 with a 45-37 win over Missouri Baptist. The game this week is the home opener for Saint Ambrose. 

This is the third meeting between SHU and SAU. The series is tied 1-1. The first meeting was a 20-19 win for the Bees in 2015 in Adrian, Michigan. The Saints won 21-17 in 2016 in Iowa.

The Saints offense is led by Jared Jordan in the backfield. He has totaled 123 rushing yards on 32 carries and two touchdowns. Quarterback Tyler Knecht is 15-22 (68.2%) through the air for 119 passing yards and a touchdown. Kaleb Jefferson has 23 rushes for 83 yards and a touchdown. Pianki Abdul-Hakiym and Timothy Brown each lead the receivers with six catches. Abdul-Hakiym has totaled 64 yards while Brown has 62 yards and a touchdown on the season.

Nick Stalworth leads the defense with 23 tackles. He is currently averaging a team-high 11.5 tackles per game. Gabe Callery has 17 tackles, one for loss, one interception, and a pass breakup. Trenton Morrow has a sack, 2.5 tackles for loss, a forced fumble, and three interceptions this season. Griffin Sobol currently has 14 tackles, two pass breakups, and a fumble recovery.

Caleb Meister leads the SHU special teams with 14 punts for 628 yards. His season-long punt of 67 yards is helping him average 44.9 yards per punt. He has pinned opponents inside the 20-yard line 10 times, seven of which came against RMU in week two. Cameron Thompson is the team's leading kick returner with 71 yards on three returns.

The Fighting Bees are led on offense by Dino Borrelli at quarterback. He is 31-50 passing for 290 yards and a touchdown. Garret Tiarks has rushed for 121 yards on 26 carries and a touchdown to lead the ground game. JD Villafuerte has caught nine passes for 149 yards and a touchdown.

Jeremiah Jackson Sr. leads the defense with 19 tackles, two interceptions, and a pass breakup. Ethan Miebach and Griffin Zajac each have 11 tackles, two for loss. Miebach has added sack and Zajac has four pass breakups. Ryan Zitkus has recorded 10 tackles, three for loss, and one sack.

Tom Gillen is 1-2 in field goals, both of his kicks have been from 40-49 yards out. Brendan Latham has 13 punts for 400 yards (30.8 yards per punt) with a season-long punt of 45 yards.
