Baseball's Late Lead Slips Away in Loss to Calumet

LAKE WALES, Fla. -- The Siena Heights baseball team suffered a tough 7-6 loss to non-conference Calumet (Ind.) at neutral-site Warner on Tuesday.

The Saints held a late 6-3 lead before the Crimson Wave put together a four-run eighth inning.

Matt Scally batted 3-for-3 with two RBI to lead the Siena Heights offense. Jacob Jackson homered and Adam Wilding doubled.

After falling behind 1-0, the Saints even the score on Jackson's solo homer in the second.

A two-run third by Calumet helped the Wave to a 3-1 edge before SHU rattled off the next five runs.

Two runs scored on a Calumet error in the sixth, tying the game 3-3. Cole Mason had an RBI single in the seventh and Scally ripped a two-run single in the eighth.

That set the stage for Calumet's comeback in the eighth.

Kenny Layman started on the mound for SHU, allowing three runs on six hits in 4 2/3 innings. He had three strikeouts and four walks.

The Saints will have their only off day of the Florida trip on Wednesday before returning to action in the Warner Invitational on Thursday with games against Bryant-Stratton and Calumet.
