Molnar Throws One-Hit Shutout in Opener as Baseball Splits with Midway

MIDWAY, Ky. -- Chase Molnar fired a one-hit shutout in the Siena Heights baseball team's opener as the Saints split a non-conference doubleheader with Midway on Friday. The Saints won game one, 4-0, before falling in game two, 3-0.

Siena Heights and Midway will return to action with another twinbill on Saturday.

Game one: Saints 4, Midway 0

Molnar worked seven innings and struck out five batters in the opener. He faced only one batter over the minimum.

Thomas Bakoway batted 2-for-2 with a double, stolen base and two RBI. Kenny Layman went 2-for-3. Cameron Hammer, Adam Wilding and Haydn Smith had doubles.

Hammer and Wilding smacked their two-baggers in SHU's two-run fourth. Wilding's hit plated the pair. Bakoway smashed a two-run double in the sixth.

Molnar retired the first 14 batters he faced before Midway's Barrett McGill hit a two-out single in the fifth. He threw only 62 pitches on the day.

Game two: Midway 3, Saints 0

The SHU pitching staff struggled with command in the early-going of game two, allowing seven walks. Three of those walks accounted for Midway's only runs.

Ryan Sullivan pitched 2 1/3 innings of scoreless relief and Cole Mason had a double on offense.

Midway pitcher Owen Clark tossed five innings of three-hit shutout ball. Jesse Komoroski earned the save.
