Saints Sweep Cleary

Adrian, Mich. – The Siena Heights baseball team swept Cleary today to earn two conference wins.

THE BASICS

Records: Siena Heights (15-13, WHAC 6-4), Cleary (7-15, WHAC 2-9)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1:

Siena Heights started off with a run in the 1st inning during the first game. Logan Nolff was the one to single to right field to wave a run in. Saints starter Reid Olmstead pitched three scoreless innings till the fourth when Cleary was able to get two runs. However, Olmstead settled down and ended up throwing a complete game. He gave up six hits and had nine strikeouts.

With a 2-1 game heading into the bottom of the 4th, Nolff once again had a RBI single to tie the game up at 2. Later in the 6th inning, Nolff scored on a wild pitch to make the game 3-2. SHU bats woke up in the 7th inning even more when Connor McCoy had a RBI single to score and run then Nolff hit a sacrifice fly to have another Saint cross the plate. Siena scored another two runs in the inning as Ryley Overacker walked with bases loaded and Weston Cook followed up with a two RBI single. The Saints pitching and defense held strong to earn a win by a score of 8-2.

Game 2:

During the second game it was Cleary's turn to score first. They had a sacrifice hit to score a run to go up 1-0 on SHU. Siena got the bats moving after being no hit in the first three innings when Connor McCoy stepped up to the plate in the 4th inning. He singled down the left field line for two RBIs. Then later in the 6th innings, McCoy doubled to left center sending a run home, SHU lead 3-1. The Saints continued scoring in the 6th when Logan Nolff doubled to center field for a RBI and Ryley Overacker had a sacrifice RBI. Cleary put two runs up in the 7th but SHU held them off to win the game 5-3.
