Overacker Walk-Off Helps Saints Split DH

Adrian, Mich. – The Saints split a double header today with Lawrence Tech. Ryley Overacker hit the walk off double to propel SHU to win in the second game.

Final Scores: Game 1: Siena Heights 7, Lawrence Tech 8, Game 2: Siena Heights 13, Lawrence Tech 12

Records: Siena Heights (13-13, WHAC 4-4), Lawrence Tech (24-11, WHAC 6-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1:

The Blue Devils of Lawrence Tech started off the game by scoring three runs in the first inning off of Saints starter Taylor Aquista. But SHU responded back with a run in the bottom half of the inning when David Pietryga singled to knock in two runs. With the score at 3-2 in the 3rd inning, LTU plated two more runs to extend their lead to 5-2. Then in the 5th innings they added even more with another two runs to make it 7-2. Siena came up in the bottom of the 5th and got a big hit by Logan Nolff on his 2 RBI single. As time moved to the 7th inning, Weston cook hit a run in on a fielder choice to make the score 7-4. Saints kept scoring in the 8th inning when Connor McCoy had a RBI single followed by a Logan Nolff sacrifice fly. LTU scored in the 9th inning and the Saints couldn't make a comeback as they lost 8-6.

Game 2:

The offenses was rolling for both teams in the second game. LTU started off once again scoring in the first inning as they put up three runs just like the first game. SHU got one run back in the 4th inning courtesy of Weston Cook who hit a sacrifice fly to score a run. Lawrence Tech made it a 4-1 game when they scored in the 5th inning. SHU finally got the Blue Devils started and put up 8 runs through the 5th and 6th innings. In the 5th, Connor McCoy and David Pietryga both had RBI hits which would make the game 4-3. Then in the 6th, Brenden Baker had a single to center field that scored a run to tie the game up at four. Next, Logan Nolff walked with bases load for the go ahead run the cross the plate. LTU had a error after Nolff's walk to help the Saints score one run. Ryley Overacker drew another bases loaded walk to add to SHU's score. The big hit came when Weston Cook hit a ball that bounced off of third base to score two runs and make Siena's lead 9-4. But the Blue Devils came right back to take the lead in the 7th and 8th innings. LTU put up eight runs to go ahead 12-9.

The Saints started chipping away in the 8th inning started by Snyder Torres singling to right field to score 2 runs. Brendan Green followed later in the inning with a RBI single to tie the game up. After long and hard fought three hour game, Ryley Overacker stepped up the plate in the 9th inning and hit a walk off double to give the Saints the victory.

The Saints will take on Cleary tomorrow, April 7th, for a conference double header. First pitch is set for 10:00 AM.
