Saints Go 1-1 Against Goshen

Goshen, Ind. -- The Siena Heights baseball team lost their first game and won their second game against Goshen

HOW IT HAPPENED

Game 1:

Goshen got out to a early lead on the Saints in the 1st inning. They were able to put up three runs out of the gate to put pressure on SHU to score some runs. However, Siena was no hit through four inning and the Maple Leafs scored three more runs make it a 6-0 game in the 5th inning. The Saints finally got something going when David Pietryga was able to score to make it a 6-1 ball game. Then in the 6th inning, SHU started to make a comeback when Pietryga had a 2 RBI base hit to make the game 6-3. Next up Ryley Overacker hit a RBI single followed by another RBI single by Delver Freites to put the Saint within one run of tying. But they fell short and couldn't tie the game up.

Game 2:

Just like the first game Goshen got out to an early lead of 1-0 in the 1st inning. But this game would be different. Brendan Green singled to score a run and tie the game up in the 5th. The Saints were not done scoring as then SHU scored off of a Maple Leafs error and a Connor McCoy 2 RBI double. The Saints led 4-1 going into the 6th inning. After Goshen scored a run in the 6th inning to make it 4-2, Siena's Logan Nolff tripled to right center which would score two runs and extend the Saints lead to 6-2. Marcus Beeson came in to relief Parker Swartz who pitched 6 innings, 1 earned run, and 6 strikeouts. Goshen threaten by scoring three runs in the 7th but Beeson shut them down to help the Saints pull together a win.

  • Connor McCoy went 2-4 with 2 RBIs
