Baseball Splits Two with Goshen

GOSHEN, Ind. -- The Siena Heights baseball team split a pair of game with Goshen in non-conference action, on Tuesday. SHU dropped game one 3-9 and came back in game two and won 7-1.

The Maple Leafs jumped out to an early lead, scoring four in the first inning and adding solo runs in the second and fourth innings.

SHU earned two runs in the top of the sixth before GC came back and tallied on two more to make it 9-2 heading into the final inning. The Saints added on one in the final inning, but it wasn't enough as Goshen claimed the first game.

Erich Klingelhofer took the loss on the mound for SHU (11-20), pitching the first four innings with one strikeout and seven hits. Landon Lumbrezer closed out the game for the Saints, allowing five hits and three runs. Colby Malson earned the win for GC, with two strikeouts and six hits in six innings of action. He was relieved by Travis Grimm in the final inning.

In the first the innings, the game was quiet until SHU tacked on a run in the top of the fourth inning. Siena Heights took advantage of Goshen (17-16-1) errors in the fifth inning, scoring four runs to take a 5-0 lead.

The Saints pushed two more runs across in the sixth inning before the Maple Leafs scored their lone run of the game. SHU finished out the game and held on to the 7-1 lead.

Starting on the mound for SHU was Robert Oliver III, who threw for four innings and struck out three batter while earning the win. Nic Olson took over in the fifth before Tristan Roth threw the final inning for the Saints. Brad Lantz suffered the loss for Goshen.

Carson Wlad went 5-for-8 on the day while two runs and an RBI. Freddy Jehle finished 4-for-9 and ended with an RBI and a run.

Next up, Siena Heights will return to action at Lourdes on Saturday in a 1 p.m. conference double-header.
