Aquinas Defeats Baseball in WHAC Action

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team dropped a 4-2 Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest to Aquinas, on Sunday, ending the series 1-2 to AQ.

SHU (10-19, 10-8 WHAC) opened the scoring in the first inning as Brenden Baker doubled to right center and was sent home off of an Aquinas error.

Aquinas (11-18, 5-12 WHAC) responded with a run in the second and the fifth innings to take a 2-1 lead. Siena Heights had multiple runners in scoring position but were unable to capitalize. In the top of the eighth inning, AQ sent two runners home to take a 4-1 lead.

Siena Heights loaded the bases with no outs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Freddy Jehle was walked in before AQ shut down the Saints, striking out two and flying out to center field.

Leading SHU with two hits and run was Baker, also earning two hits was Carson Wlad. Brenden Johnson scored twice while earning two hits for Aquinas.

Reid Olmstead started on the hill for SHU and threw seven innings. He struck out two batters while allowing five hits and two runs. Tristan Roth took over in the eighth inning and loaded the bases before he was relieved by Ben Finn who finished the game. Roth suffered the loss, allowing the two runs in the eighth.

Winning pitcher Walter Graff came in to pitch for one inning, preceded by Cody Ritsema Tomoya Nakagawa and Mike Eastman. Taylor Borchers earned the save for AQ, pitching the final inning of the game.

Siena Heights will return to action on Tuesday in a non-conference double-header against Goshen (Ind.). SHU will travel to the Maple Leafs for a 3 p.m. start.
