Muller Mashes Four Homers as Baseball Splits with Indiana Tech

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- Dan Muller smashed four home runs in two games as the Siena Heights baseball team split a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader with Indiana Tech on Sunday. The Saints dropped game one, 13-11, before winning game two, 5-3.

In the opener, Muller went 3-for-5 with three homers and five RBI. Both Eric Henderson and Austin Hauck went 3-for-5 with two runs and one RBI.

Drew Byers added a 2-for-5 game with two runs and one RBI. Dennis Sharp Jr. homered.

The Saints once trailed 7-2 before scoring seven consecutive runs -- four in the fifth and three in the sixth -- to take a 9-7 lead.

Indiana Tech quickly responded for six runs in its half of the sixth and led the rest of the way.

Joe Williams had a first-inning RBI groundout and Muller connected for a third-inning bomb to account for SHU's first two runs. Meanwhile, the Warriors scored in each of the first four innings to build their 7-2 advantage.

A three-run homer by Muller highlighted the Saints' four-run fifth. Mike Lollo added an RBI in the inning.

Then, in the sixth, Sharp homered while Byers and Henderson contributed RBI singles to put the Saints ahead, 9-7.

Trailing 13-9 in the seventh, SHU pushed acrosse one run on an Indiana Tech error. Muller hit his third home run in the eighth to plate the game's final score.

Brent Vaccaro started on the hill for Siena Heights, allowing seven runs (six earned) on eight hits while compiling one strikeout, one walk and one hit batsman.

Matt King tossed two innings of scoreless relief. Kyle Kuhr suffered the loss.

Bryan Brudi (double) and Alex McKinstry (double) had three hits apiece for Tech. Justin Kalusa homered, Connor McLaughlin was the winning pitcher, and Curtis Wise made the save.

In game two, Muller was 2-for-2 with a homer and three RBI.

The Saints (14-15, 4-6) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning and held on the rest of the way.

Sharp had an RBI single during SHU's two-run first.

Siena later extended its lead to 4-1 on a two-run dinger by Muller. Muller later had an RBI single in the seventh, which pushed the Saints' advantage to 5-3.

Sharp, Williams and Logan Curtis had two hits in the game. Lollo doubled.

Wes Sorenson started on the mound for SHU, but went only one inning before King finished with six relief innings. King gave up two runs on three hits while totaling four strikeouts, seven walks and two hit batsmen.

McKinstry had two hits and two RBI to lead the Tech offense.

The Saints will return to action on Tuesday with a 6 p.m. non-conference game across town at Adrian.
