SHU Baseball Drops Home Contest to Cross-Town AC

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team dropped a 14-6 decision in non-conference action to cross-town rival Adrian at the Siena Heights Baseball Diamond on Thursday.

The visiting Bulldogs (11-7) snapped a 5-all tie with five runs in the seventh and four in the ninth.

Dennis Sharp (Monroe, Mich./Monroe) batted 3-for-3 with a double, two runs, and two RBI while Eric Henderson (Howell, Mich./Howell) and B.J. Salazar (Lansing, Mich./Lansing Eastern) contributed two hits apiece for the Saints (6-13). Marcus Stewart (Clinton, Mich./Clinton) added a double.

With a predetermined pitching rotation, starter Jake Sperry (Livonia, Mich./Westland John Glenn) worked only two innings, but both were scoreless. Jake Kret (Wyandotte, Mich./Roosevelt) added a shutout frame in relief.

Adrian took its first lead in the third on an RBI by Andrew DeLuca before the Saints came back with three in the fourth -- two on a double by Sharp and one on a single by Salazar.

The Bulldogs regained the lead in the fifth with four runs, including three on a bases-loaded triple by Jamey Sackett. R.J. Rios added an RBI single as AC grabbed a 5-3 advantage.

The Saints pulled even for the final time on RBI singles by Drew Milligan (Hudson, Mich./Hudson) and Henderson before Adrian pushed across nine consecutive runs.

In the visitors' five-run seventh, Sackett, Mitch Stefanski and Anthony Sergi had RBI singles while Dan Heatherly crunched a run-scoring triple.

Adrian tacked on four more in the eighth; Dom Pompey smashed a two-run double while Jacob McCarty and Ben Yax delivered RBI doubles.

The game's final run was scored on a sacrifice fly by Mike Lollo (Allen Park, Mich./Cabrini) in the SHU eighth.

Yax, who doubled twice, and Sergi had three hits apiece for the Bulldogs. Sergi and Sam Fischer scored three runs apiece while Sackett finished with two hits and four RBI.

The Saints will return to action this weekend with a four-game Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference series at Northwestern Ohio.
