SHU Baseball Unable to Hold off Late Albion Charge

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights baseball team dropped a 10-inning non-conference game to Albion, 6-5, at the Siena Heights Baseball Diamond on Tuesday.

Siena Heights held a 5-3 advantage before Albion scored single runs in the eighth, ninth and 10th innings as the visiting Britons (13-18) scored three unanswered runs for a come-from-behind win.

Four different Saints -- Eric Henderson (Howell, Mich./Howell), Mike Lollo (Allen Park, Mich./Cabrini), Travis Podolak (Bowling Green, Ohio/Otsego) and Drew Milligan (Hudson, Mich./Hudson) -- had 2-for-4 days.

Henderson also had a run and two RBI, Lollo scored once and doubled, and Podolak scored once. Robbie Schwartz (Adrian, Mich./Adrian) and Dennis Sharp (Monroe, Mich./Monroe) also had doubles for SHU (10-24).

Each team scored runs in the opening frame as Davin Montgomery smacked a sacrifice fly for Albion and Henderson scored on a wild pitch for the Saints.

SHU grabbed its first lead in the second, getting an RBI groundout by Austin Hauck (Saline, Mich./Saline) and an RBI single from Henderson to take a 3-1 lead.

The Britons scored twice in the sixth to tie the contest at 3-all before Siena Heights brought in solo runs during the sixth and seventh on sac flies by Daniel Abbott (Plymouth, Mich./Lutheran Westland) and Henderson, respectively.

Then, Albion came back with a Montgomery RBI single, a Brendan Diamond RBI single and a Kyle Kowal sacrifice fly for the game's final three runs.

Jake Sperry
(Livonia, Mich./Westland John Glenn) was SHU's starting pitcher. He worked six innings and struck out two batters. Tyler Butlin (Saint Clair, Mich./Saint Clair) suffered the loss without allowing an earned run.

For Albion, Diamond batted 3-for-5 with two runs, one RBI and four stolen bases. Adam Mazza added a 3-for-4 game with a double, two runs and one stolen base. Bill Radatz earned the win after pitching two shutout innings of relief.

The Saints will return to action on Wednesday with a 7 p.m. non-conference game at cross-town rival Adrian.
