The following is inscribed on the 1998 Men's Cross Country team's Hall of Fame plaque:

The 1998 Men’s Cross Country Team is simply one of the best cross-country teams in school history.  Led by NAIA All-American Kevin Schultz and SHU Hall-of-Famer Matt Miller, the Saints went on to finish 8th at the NAIA National Championships in Parkside, WI.  That finish tied them for the best national showing in program history.   Earlier that year, the Saints took three of the top five places in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championships to claim the title. They also placed 3rd in the National Catholic College Division. At the Parkside Invitational, the Saints placed 4th in the 33 team event that is run on the same course as the NAIA Nationals. They placed 5th at the All-Michigan meet that season.  The Saints were outrun by only three division one schools and the eventual division three national champion. Academically, Carl Spina was named as an NAIA Scholar Athlete that season.  Other team members include: Coach Tim Bauer, Jason Arnold, Andy Artiaga, Ryan Bills, Mike Decker, Jason Gurzynski, Chris Healy, Ryan Inks, Joe Layne, Jesse Lince, Gary Schultz, Tirrell Sturdivent, Nick Tabb, Paul VanSickle, and Jason Wilkins.
