Saints Fall to No. 1 Keiser 12-7 in NAIA Tournament

SAVANNAH, Ga. -- The Siena Heights women's lacrosse team fell 12-7 to 1st-ranked Keiser in the quarterfinal round of the NAIA tournament to be eliminated on Wednesday morning. Alexis Nicole led the Saints with three goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Saints jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first nine minutes of the game as Alexis Nicole found the back of the net unassisted and Jenna Sommerville netted one off a pass from Kristin Delclos. The Seahawks tied the game after Madison Andrews scored two goals, one of which was a man-up goal. SHU earned two more goals in the first half as Alexis Nicole slotted one past Jessica Covell from Madison Spell and Marissa Cirino had a man-up goal assisted by Jenna Sommerville. Keiser cut the deficit to one goal at the half when Madison Andrews put one past Elizabeth Elliott.

Siena opened the second half with a goal from Alexis Nicole to be up 5-3. The Seahawks gained some cushion netting seven straight goals to put them in the 10-5 lead with 12:32 left in the game. The Saints earned their final two goals of the game from Madison Spell and Emily Pringle with an assist from Jenna Sommerville. Keiser scored two insurance goals from Valeria Lomaglio from a pass by Cat Raymond and Ashley Fox to secure the 12-7 win. 

TOP SAINTS

Alexis Nicole also recorded one groundball, one draw control, and one caused turnover.

Jenna Sommerville tallied one goal, two assists, three shots on goal, and one groundball.

Elizabeth Elliott made 10 saves off 22 shots faced in net for SHU.

THE OPPOSITION

• Madison Andrews led the Seahawks with five goals, nine shots, three groundballs, two draw controls, and two caused turnovers.

• Valeria Lomaglio earned two goals, seven shots, and one groundball.

• Jessica Covell made 10 saves off 17 shots in goal.

SEASON WRAP UP

With the loss, the Saints are eliminated from the NAIA tournament and their season comes to an end with a 7-4 overall record. Siena Heights had a 4-1 mark in conference play to finish third in the league standings.
