9th-Ranked Saints Advance in WHAC Tournament with Win over Indiana Tech

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The 9th-Ranked Siena Heights women's lacrosse team dominated Indiana Tech 16-6 in the WHAC Tournament Quarterfinal on Tuesday night to advance to the semifinals. Madison Spell led the Saints with 4 goals, one assist, and six draw controls.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Saints came out hot in the first half scoring seven-straight goals three from Jenna Sommerville for a hat trick, two from Alexis Nicole, one from Emily Pringle, and one from Madison Spell with assists from Marissa Cirino, Katherine Tapia, Emily Pringle, and Madison Spell. The Warriors earned their first goal of the game at the 15:25 mark as Abby Barkdull found the back of the net off a free position shot. Indiana Tech earned one more goal in the first half as Brooke Buhr slotted one past Elizabeth Elliott off a pass from Abby Barkdull. SHU went on to score five more goals for the 12-2 lead at the half as Marissa Cirino, Alexis Nicole, Madison Spell, and Emily Pringle scored goals with assists from Emily Pringle and Jenna Sommerville.

Siena kept the momentum going earning two goals to start the first half as Madison Spell and Marissa Cirino found the back of the net. The Warriors had four goals the remainder of the game from Abbey Wilson, Madi Jarvis, and Abby Barkdull with an assist from Madi Jarvis but the final push would not be enough as the Saints scored two more goals by Jenna Sommerville and Katherine Tapia to end the game with the 16-6 win. 

TOP SAINTS

Madison Spell also recorded six shots on goal and two groundballs.

Jenna Sommerville earned four goals, one assist, four shots on goal, and two groundballs.

Alexis Nicole tallied a hat trick, two groundballs, four draw controls, and one caused turnover.

Elizabeth Elliott (W, 2-2) made eight saved off the 14 shots she faced between the pipes for SHU.

THE OPPOSITION

• Abbey Wilson recorded two goals, four shots on goal, and six draw controls.

• Abby Barkdull earned two goals, six shots on goal, and one groundball. 

• Brooke Buhr and Madi Jarvis respectively tallied a goal. 

• Cece Mason (L, 1-2) had four saves off the 20 shots she faced in net for the Warriors.
