This Week for the Saints: The 4-seeded Siena Heights University women's lacrosse team looks ahead to hosting the 5-seeded Indiana Tech Warriors in the opening round of the WHAC after a 10-day pause due to COVID-19.
 
Head Coach: Alexa Matta is in her second season as the head coach for the Saints and currently has a 7-3 record. Her first season in 2020 as head coach was was cut short after just four games due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Matta's familiarity with the WHAC came as a four-year starter for the Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team from 2012-16. 
 
WHAC Tournament: The Saints have qualified for the WHAC tournament three times in 2014, 2018, and 2019 seasons since the programs start in 2011. 
Siena Heights is 2-3 in its first game of the tournament. SHU is 0-2 in the semifinal round of the WHAC tournament.
 
Indiana Tech and Siena Heights have only met once in the postseason since the start of the program in 2011. The Warriors won that meeting, 16-7, in the second round of the 2019 WHAC tournament.
 
History: Siena Heights is  60-78 all-time in women's lacrosse. The Saints are 10-12 the past two seasons (2020 was cut short after just two games due to COVID). The team has had back-to-back seasons with a winning record in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference after a 5-4 campaign in the 2019 season and a 4-2 mark in 2018. The 2018 team made history as the first Saint women's lacrosse team to achieve a berth in the NAIA national tournament.
 
At Home: The Saints are 2-1 at home this season. They are 2-3 in WHAC Tournament opening-round games at home. They won their last home WHAC Tournament game in the 2019 season against Lourdes 17-10.
 
On The Road: The Saints are 3-1 in away games this season. They upset 10th-ranked Marian University winning 11-2. They lost to the 2nd-ranked University of the Cumberlands with a score of 18-4. They won against Lourdes (23-0) and Bethel (19-15).
 
Spectator Policy: Siena Heights University announced the restriction of fan attendance at SHU home athletic events to only a limited number of students living on campus. This policy will take effect as of March 30, 2021 and will extend through Easter weekend. At that time, the University will re-evaluate the situation.
 
Pre-Pause Recap: Siena Heights 25, Cleary 5 / April 3rd
The Saints set the pace scoring four straight goals in the first six minutes of the game from Madison Spell, Jenna Sommerville, Marissa Cirino, and Kristen Delclos with assists from Marissa Cirino and Jenna Sommerville. SHU went on to score four straight goals from Marissa Cirino, Madison Spell, and Jenna Sommerville with Emily Pringle earning an assist. Siena gained a huge cushion putting up eight more goals in the half for a 19-4 lead.
 
The Saints gained some insurance as they earned six more goals in the second half from Amber Soukup, Ashlyn Childs, Tori Tidswell, Emily Pringle, and Rachel Heicher with assists from Marissa Cirino and Alexis Nicole earning them the 25-5 win.
 
Players of the Week: Marissa Cirino was named the WHAC women's lacrosse offensive player of the week three times in a row. Two of those three she earned that award of the NAIA level as well. 
 
Setting Records: Marissa Cirino tied the program record for most goals in a game with 10 in the game against Indiana Tech on March 20th. Katherine Tapia ties that record also with 10 goals against Madonna in the 2019 season.
 
Series History: The Warriors hold the all-time record against the Saints 16-1. The only win SHU earned over Indiana Tech was this season on March 20th as they won 20-13 on their home field. The Warriors have a 9-1 record at O'Laughlin Stadium and a 14-1 conference record against Siena.
 
Scouting Report: Abby Barkdull leads the Warriors with 35 goals, 52 points, 68 shots, and 54 shots on goal. Abbey Wilson has two game-winning goals. She also has the most ground balls (30) and draw controls (44). Brooke Buhr has the team's highest assists (18). Cece Mason leads Indiana Tech in net with 300 minutes played, 31 saves, 101 shots faced, and a record of 1-2.
