Saints Put Up a Fight in Tough Loss Against 9th-Ranked Concordia

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The (RV) Siena Heights women's lacrosse team was upset in a tough 15-14 loss to WHAC opponent Concordia on Tuesday night. Marissa Cirino led the Saints with six goals and one assist on the night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Cardinals scored two goals right out of the gate from Cassandra Allard and Alyssa Lundy to give them the 2-0 lead. The Saints got hot as they scored seven straight goals as Marissa Cirino earned three goals, Emily Pringle and Alexis Nicole earned one, and Jenna Sommerville earned two while Madison Spell, Tori Tidswell, and Jenna Sommerville had assists. Taylor Nesbitt netted one from Amanda Archer for Concordia with 12:18 left on the clock to update the score to 7-3. SHU went on to earn three-straight goals two from Jenna Sommerville and one from Emily Pringle that Marissa Cirino assisted. The Cardinals answered as they also scored three straight goals as Alyssa Lundy had two goals and an assist while Cassandra Allard had a goal and an assist updating the score to 10-6 at the half.

Concordia kept the momentum going in the second half when they scored six straight goals to regain the lead 12-10 with 19:09 left in the game. Siena took back the lead 14-13 as Marissa Cirino had two free position goals and another goal that was assisted by Madison Spell with 4:10 left on the clock. The Cardinals scored two goals from Cassandra Allard assisted by Jennifer Miller and Alyssa Lundy in the final minutes of the game. The final push for the Saints was not enough as they ran out of time and faced the tough loss.  

TOP SAINTS

• Marissa Cirino also recorded seven shots on goal, two ground balls, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers. 

• Jenna Sommerville tallied four goals, one assist, six shots on goal, and four ground balls.

• Alexis Nicole and Emily Pringle each earned two goals.

• Elizabeth Elliott (L, 2-2) made 14 saves off the 29 shots she faced in goal for the Saints.

THE OPPOSITION

• Alyssa Lundy led the Cardinals with five goals, one assist, eight shots on goal, and one ground ball.

• Cassandra Allard recorded four goals, one assist, four shots on goal, and one ground ball.

• Nicole Bordo tallied two goals and three shots on goal. 

• Amanda Archer (W, 2-1) made four saves off the 18 shots she faced in net.
