This Week for the Saints: The Siena Heights University women's lacrosse team looks ahead to two conference games this week as they host Concordia on Tuesday and are on the road against Lourdes on Friday.

Head Coach: Alexa Matta is in her second season as the head coach for the Saints. She currently has a 2-2 record as the 2020 season was cut short after just four games due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Matta's familiarity with the WHAC came as a four-year starter for the Indiana Tech women's lacrosse team from 2012-16. 

History: Siena Heights is  60-58 all-time in women's lacrosse. The Saints are 10-12 the past two seasons (2020 was cut short after just two games due to COVID). The team has had back-to-back seasons with a winning record in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference after a 5-4 campaign in the 2019 season and a 4-2 mark in 2018. The 2018 team made history as the first Saint women's lacrosse team to achieve a berth in the NAIA national tournament.

At Home: Siena Heights is 26-26 all-time in home contests. They are 3-6 all-time in home-opening games since the program started in 2011. They won their home opener against Indiana Tech 20-13 on Saturday. 

On The Road: The Saints are 1-1 in away games so far in the season. They upset 10th-ranked Marian University winning 11-2. They lost to the 2nd-ranked University of the Cumberlands with a score of 18-4.

Spectator Policy: Family members of SHU Student-athletes and a limited number of the Siena Heights Community (Faculty, Students, and Staff) will be allowed to attend SHU Athletic home events held within the stadium. Due to potential freezing rain, ice, and snow, Siena Heights University athletics and the Department of Safety will make a determination the day before all contests held at the stadium on whether the stands are safe for spectators to attend. Last Week Recap: Siena Heights 20, Indiana Tech 13

The Saints answered taking the 3-1 lead as Marissa Cirino had two straight goals and Jenna Sommerville netted her first goal of the game with Madison Spell on the assist. SHU went on to score three-straight goals as Marissa Crino had two free position goals and Jenna Sommerville had one free position goal for the 6-2 lead. Siena scored one from Marissa Cirino to send the game into intermission with SHU in the lead 7-6.

The Saints set the pace for the second half as Alexis Nicole earned two goals back to back as Marissa Cirino had the assist on one for the 8-6 lead. SHU went on to score four straight goals from Jenna Sommerville, Marissa Cirino, and Alexis Nicole while Madison Spell and Alexis Nicole earned assists. Siena went on to score three-straight goals by Marissa Cirino and Madison Spell earning a lead of 16-10. SHU went on to score four more goals in the half from Marissa Cirino and Pringle securing the Saints the 20-13 win.

Setting Records: Marissa Cirino tied the program record for most goals in a game with 10 in the game against Indiana Tech on Saturday. Katherine Tapia ties that record also with 10 goals against Madonna in the 2019 season.

Series History: Concordia - The last time the two teams met was in the 2019 season on March 27th at O'Laughin Stadium in Adrian as the Saints won 17-11.

Lourdes - The Saints hold the all-time record against Lourdes 10-1. SHU has a 3-0 away record, 7-1 home record, and 9-1 conference record against the Gray Wolves. The last time the two teams met was in the 2019 season on April 23rd as the Saints won 17-10 on their home field. Lourdes' only win against SHU was in the 2016 season on April 16th as they won 12-7 on the road. 

Scouting Reports: Concordia - The Cardinals are 1-1 on the season so far. They won against Indiana Tech 17-7 on February 27th and lost to Ashland 15-10  on March 13th. Greyson Papp leads the team in goals (6), shots (16), and shots on goal (12). Cassandra Allard has the team's highest assists (3), points (7), and caused turnovers (4). Jennifer Miller has the highest draw controls (13). Amanda Archer has the team's highest ground balls (12) and leads the team in goal with 11 saves, a save percentage of 0.379, and a record of 1-0.

Lourdes - The Gray Wolves have no played a game yet this season. Their first game is scheduled for Wednesday, March 24th against Bethel (Ind.) on the road. Hanna Merrick who transferred to Siena Heights this season led Lourdes last season with 43 goals, 47 points, and 3 game-winning goals. Tiara Reed had the team's highest assists (9), 2 game-winning goals, team's highest ground balls (56), team's highest draw controls (68), and team's highest caused turnovers (39). Bella D'Arcy who also transferred to Siena Heights this season had the most shots (109) and shots on goal (90). Jacque Pappadakes led the Gray Wolves in net with 158 saves, a .382 save percentage, and an 8-11 record.
