Women's Basketball To Match Up With Rochester, Concordia

THIS WEEK IN SHU WOMEN'S HOOPS

ROCHESTER (13-11, 10-8) at SIENA HEIGHTS (21-3, 16-2), Wednesday, 6 p.m.

CONCORDIA (17-7, 15-3) at SIENA HEIGHTS, Saturday, 5 p.m.

 

HEAD COACH: Sue Syljebeck is in her 20th season as the head coach of the Saints women's basketball program. She is the program's winningest coach with a career record of 380-231. Syljebeck currently ranks 20th on the NAIA Women's basketball active coach wins list. She will be assisted this year by Deb Ray, Sara Chrenko, Niesha Lowe, Mo Rammuny, Dan Brooks and Tee Watters.
 
 
WINS IN 21 OF 22: The Saints have won three straight games and 21 of 22 after winning a pair of road games last week.

SHU began the week with a 68-60 win at Northwestern Ohio. The Saints trailed 45-38 after three quarters before starting the fourth on an 11-0 run. E'Anna Won had the first six points and then Kayla Hinton tacked on the next five. SHU never trailed after that.

Hinton finished with 20 points and six rebounds while Won compiled 14 points, eight rebounds and three steals.

Jakarri Alven added 10 points and nine rebounds. Olivia DeLong grabbed seven boards.

On Saturday, Jillian Gelso led a quartet of Siena Heights scorers in double-figures with 17 points as the Saints defeated Cornerstone, 68-56.

Gelso was followed by Olivia DeLong (15), Hinton (14) and Alven (11). Alven also had six assists and Hinton made five steals. Won grabbed seven rebounds.

RECENT MEETINGS

Siena Heights vs. Rochester

Siena Heights defeated the Warriors, 73-41, earlier this season. Kayla Hinton and Madison Vice scored 12 points each for the Saints (11-2, 6-1) while Jakarri Alven totaled 10.

Hinton made six assists. Vice and E'Anna Won grabbed six rebounds apiece. Olivia DeLong had two blocks.

SHU won 2 of 3 games against the Warriors last year, ultimately falling in a double-overtime WHAC Tournament semifinal thriller, 93-83. The Saints were victorious in both regular-season matchups, taking a 90-75 road win and a 79-74 home victory. SHU has lost to Rochester in the semifinals in each of the last two years.

 

Siena Heights vs. Concordia

The Saints got back on the winning side against Concordia after a pair of losses to the Cardinals last season. SHU outlasted Concordia, 72-68, earlier this year in Ann Arbor.

Kayla Hinton was SHU's leading scorer with 20 points while Olivia DeLong had a strong double-double effort with 16 points, 11 rebounds, five blocks and two steals.

E'Moni Guice-Finch had 14 points, including 11 in a momentum-shifting second quarter.
