Women's Basketball Takes On UNOH, Cornerstone

THIS WEEK IN SHU WOMEN'S HOOPS

SIENA HEIGHTS (19-3, 14-2) at NORTHWESTERN OHIO (10-12, 6-10), Wednesday, 5:30 p.m.

SIENA HEIGHTS at CORNERSTONE (12-9, 10-6), Saturday, 1 p.m.

 

HEAD COACH: Sue Syljebeck is in her 20th season as the head coach of the Saints women's basketball program. She is the program's winningest coach with a career record of 378-231. Syljebeck currently ranks 20th on the NAIA Women's basketball active coach wins list. She will be assisted this year by Deb Ray, Sara Chrenko, Niesha Lowe, Mo Rammuny, Dan Brooks and Tee Watters.
 
 
STREAK SNAPPED: The Saints won 18 straight games before falling at 21st-ranked Indiana Tech last week on Wednesday, 80-67. SHU bounced back with a 66-39 win against Cleary.
 
Against Indiana Tech, Kayla Hinton led the Saints with 26 points while E'Moni Guice-Finch contributed 12. E'Anna Won added 10 points and Olivia DeLong grabbed eight rebounds.
 
DeLong led the way against Cleary with 20 points and eight rebounds. Jillian Gelso added 14 points while Hinton, Won and Jakarri Alven grabbed six rebounds apiece. Alven had five steals.

RECENT MEETINGS

Siena Heights vs. Northwestern Ohio

The Saints have won three straight games against UNOH, dating back to last season. SHU defeated the Racers, 61-29, earlier this season at home.

Madison Vice was the Saints' leading scorer with 12 points while Kayla Hinton had a strong all-around game with 11 points, eight rebounds, four assists and three steals.

Also for SHU, Jakarri Alven scored 10 points. Olivia DeLong grabbed eight rebounds while Eva Alcock, Brooke Rebman and E'Anna Won hauled down seven boards each.

 

Siena Heights vs. Cleary

Kayla Hinton scored 25 points as the Siena Heights women's basketball team took a 78-58 victory over Cornerstone earlier this year.

Hinton also had seven rebounds, six assists and three steals while Olivia DeLong recorded a double-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks.

Jillian Gelso added 11 points and Jakarri Alven grabbed 11 rebounds for the Saints.

The Saints have won 11 of their last 12 against the Golden Eagles. Their only defeat came last season -- an 89-80 loss in Grand Rapids.
