Women's Basketball Hosts Lourdes, Madonna This Week

THIS WEEK IN SHU WOMEN'S HOOPS

LOURDES (6-11, 4-8) at SIENA HEIGHTS (16-2, 11-1), Wednesday, 6 p.m.

MADONNA (9-9, 5-7) at SIENA HEIGHTS, Saturday, 5 p.m.

 

HEAD COACH: Sue Syljebeck is in her 20th season as the head coach of the Saints women's basketball program. She is the program's winningest coach with a career record of 375-230. Syljebeck currently ranks 20th on the NAIA Women's basketball active coach wins list. She will be assisted this year by Deb Ray, Sara Chrenko, Niesha Lowe, Mo Rammuny, Dan Brooks and Tee Watters.
 
 
SHU WINNERS OF 16 CONSECUTIVE GAMES: Siena Heights has won 16 straight contests -- the second-longest winning streak in program history. The record is a 23-game streak by the 1978-79 squad that finished 27-2 under SHU Hall of Fame coach Sr. Mary Alice Murnen.
 
Last week, the Saints earned a pair of WHAC road wins. They defeated Concordia, 72-68, and then Aquinas, 67-46.
 
Against CUAA, Kayla Hinton was SHU's leading scorer with 20 points while Olivia DeLong had a strong double-double effort with 16 points, 11 rebounds, five blocks and two steals.

E'Moni Guice-Finch had 14 points, including 11 in a momentum-shifting second quarter.

In the win over Aquinas, Jillian Gelso had 15 points and eight rebounds as she led a quartet of Saint scorers in double-figures.

Hinton added 14 points and five assists while E'Anna Won contributed 12 points, nine rebounds and six assists.

DeLong added a double-double worth 10 points and 11 rebounds. Jakarri Alven grabbed nine rebounds.

RECENT MEETINGS

Siena Heights vs. Lourdes

The Saints are 25-0 all-time against Lourdes, dating back to Dec. 3, 2011. The teams met earlier this year as SHU defeated the Gray Wolves, 71-55, on Nov. 15, to begin its 16-game winning streak. Gelso buried six 3-pointers en route to a 22-point, nine-rebound effort. Hinton had her a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. E'Anna Won had 14 points and five assists. Brooke Rebman added 13 points for SHU.

 

Siena Heights vs. Madonna

The Saints have won their last 14 against Madonna. Siena Heights defeated Madonna earlier this season, 76-49, on Dec. 9. DeLong totaled 23 points and three blocks. Gelso added 12 points and six rebounds while Alven put in 10 points. Won contributed 12 rebounds and four assists. The Crusaders' last win in the series occurred Feb. 25, 2016.
