Women's Basketball Takes 10-Game Win Streak into 2024

THIS WEEK IN SHU WOMEN'S HOOPS

SIENA HEIGHTS (10-2, 5-1) at ROCHESTER (7-5, 4-2), Wednesday, 5:30 p.m.

CORNERSTONE (6-5, 4-2) at SIENA HEIGHTS, Saturday, 5 p.m.

 

HEAD COACH: Sue Syljebeck is in her 20th season as the head coach of the Saints women's basketball program. She is the program's winningest coach with a career record of 369-230. Syljebeck currently ranks 20th on the NAIA Women's basketball active coach wins list. She will be assisted this year by Deb Ray, Sara Chrenko, Niesha Lowe, Mo Rammuny, Dan Brooks and Tee Watters.
 
SHU WINNERS OF 10 STRAIGHT: The Saints traveled to San Juan, P.R., for the Puerto Rico Clasico and earned two wins on the island. SHU defeated Puerto Rico-Rio Piedras, 55-35, and then Warner, 61-40.
 
Against UPRRP, Kayla Hinton totaled 11 points, seven rebounds, five steals and three assists. Brooke Rebman added 11 points and E'Anna Won finished with 13 rebounds and six assists for the Saints.
 
In the win over Warner, Hinton had 13 points, nine rebounds and five assists for the Saints, who won their 10th straight game to finish 4-0 in December. That accounts for the program's longest win streak since a 14-game stretch in 2019-20.

Eva Alcock added 12 points and three blocks while Jillian Gelso put in 11 points for SHU. E'Anna Won had nine blocks and six assists.

RECENT MEETINGS

Siena Heights vs. Rochester

SHU won 2 of 3 games against the Warriors last year, ultimately falling in a double-overtime WHAC Tournament semifinal thriller, 93-83. The Saints were victorious in both regular-season matchups, taking a 90-75 road win and a 79-74 home victory. SHU has lost to Rochester in the semifinals in each of the last two years.

 

Siena Heights vs. Cornerstone

The Saints have won 10 of their last 11 against the Golden Eagles. Their only defeat came last season -- an 89-80 loss in Grand Rapids. SHU avenged that loss with a 79-47 home win later in the year.
