Saints Host Cleary in a WHAC Contest Tomorrow

Upcoming for Saints Men's Soccer: The Saints continue their spring slate this week hosting Cleary in a home conference game on Saturday. SHU split last week as they lost to Aquinas (1-0) and won against Lawrence Tech (2-0).
 
Head Coach: Drew Crawford enters his third season as the Saints' head coach. He was an assistant coach for the Siena Heights women's soccer program for six seasons (2012-2017), bringing 27 years of coaching experience to the squad.  As head coach, he has earned a 13-22-2 overall record and a 7-13-2 conference record. In 2018 the Saints finished 7th in the WHAC and in 2019 they finished 8th. 
 
At Home: The Saints are 1-4 in home games on the season. They lost games against Indiana Tech (3-0), Lourdes (1-0), Concordia (2-0), and Aquinas (1-0). Their lone win was against Lawrence Tech (2-0).
 
On the Road: The Saints have only had two away games this season one during their fall schedule (Oct. 24) against Cornerstone and one this week (Mar. 10) against UNOH. They lost 1-0 to Cornerstone and 2-0 to UNOH.
 
Spectator Policy: Family members of SHU Student-athletes and a limited number of the Siena Heights community will be allowed to attend SHU Athletic home events held within the stadium. Siena Heights University athletics and the Department of Safety will make a determination the day before all contests held at the stadium on whether the stands are safe for spectators to attend. No visiting spectators will be allowed to attend an event on the SHU campus at this time.
 
Last Week Recap: Aquinas 1, Siena Heights 0
At the 16:36 mark, Aquinas scored the game-winning goal as Theo Maye received a pass from Liam Travers on the right side of the box and slotted it past Andrew Kozan SHU had four opportunities to score the equalizer as they had for shots on goal from Artur Becker, Gustavo Barros, Gaizka Zandio, and Marcelo Rocha but came up short as Antonio Strassioto helped lead Aquinas to the win.
 
Siena Heights 2, Lawrence Tech 0
Lawrence Tech had a foul in the box that resulted in a yellow card and allowed Barros to score the penalty shot giving Siena the 1-0 lead at the 2:45 mark. Eight minutes later, the Saints struck again as Uthman Babatunde had a shot on goal, and Marko Matovski made the save off of a deflection that allowed Barros to net the ball from the rebound. SHU's defense held the Blue Devils offense allowing zero shots on goal in the second half for the 2-0 win.
 
UNOH 2, Siena Heights 0
The Racers broke the tie in the opening 10 minutes of the game with an unassisted goal from Karim Jouini. UNOH extended the lead with an insurance goal in the 43rd minute when Luka Pekovic scored off assists from Gustavo Moses and Adam Hanson. The UNOH defense was stout as it prevented a single shot on goal from the Saints in regulation. Remy Collard was the lone Siena player to get a shot off, but it went wide left.
 
Series History: Cleary - This will be the first time the two teams meet this season. The Cougars have a 0-4-1 record so far as they've dropped a game to Aquinas (6-0) (4-0), Indiana Tech (2-0), and Madonna (4-0) while tieing Cornerstone 0-0 in double overtime. The last time the teams met was in the 2019 season on September 28th as the Saints beat the Cougars 2-1 in double-overtime on their home field. 
 
Scouting Report: Cleary - Juan Gomez has started in all four games for the Cougars. Gomez has 20 saves and a save percentage of .769 in goal for Cleary. Benjamin Delage leads the team in shots with nine. Lucas Carvalho leads the team with two shots on goal. 
 
Siena Heights - Gustavo Barros leads the Saints with three goals (one game-winning), 12 shots, and six shots on goal. Remy Collard has earned one goal on the season. Uthman Babatunde leads the team in assists with two. Andrew Kozan leads the Saints between the pipes with 39 saves, a save percentage of .796 and a record of 2-3.
