ADRIAN, Mich. -- A back-and-forth contest tilted the wrong direction on Saturday afternoon as the Siena Heights men's basketball team fell to non-conference opponent Spring Arbor, 73-71, at the SHU Fieldhouse.
Delano Williams led the Saints with 17 points in a game in which neither team led by more than five.
Colin Nutter added 15 points and six rebounds while Davin Walker finished with 12 points and seven rebounds.
SHU (4-11) had the lead -- and the ball -- when SAU's Gabe Newhof had a steal and dunk to tie the game at 71-71 with 40 seconds remaining. On the next Siena Heights possession, Newhof made a block to set up a pair of go-ahead free throws at the other end by teammate Kevyn Robertson.
Siena Heights tried to inbounds the ball with three seconds left, but were unable to get off a final shot.
Newhof finished with 24 points and nine rebounds for the Cougars (7-8). Robertson added 13 points and nine rebounds while Austin Braun contributed 19 points.
The Saints will return to action on Wednesday with a 7:30 p.m. WHAC home game against Michigan-Dearborn.
