Jackson Efforts Help SHU Defeat IU-South Bend in Final Game of 2017

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Senior guard Tony Jackson II scored 24 points to help the Siena Heights men's basketball team defeat non-conference opponent Indiana-South Bend, 74-71, on Saturday to close out 2017.

To open the game, the Titans jumped out to a six-point lead. SHU fought back, Josh Winowiecki slamming one home to give the Saints a 12-11 lead with 12:04 remaining in the first half. IUSB again climbed to a six-point lead, only to be shut down by Siena Heights with a last second three-pointer by Winowiecki to earn a 33-32 halftime lead.

The Saints (6-8) a six-point lead with 45-39 remaining in the contest, but were met with resistance from the Titans (9-8) IUSB battled to earn a 10-point lead with 9:06 remaining. Siena Heights continued to fight, eventually claiming a 69-68 lead with two free throws from Winowiecki. Nick Randle ended the game with three free throws to close out the game and ensure the Saints' 74-71 victory.

Leading SHU was Jackson with 24 points, including making all 10 shots from the charity stripe, while adding eight rebounds and three assists. Winowiecki earned 11 points for the Saints, grabbing eight boards and managing four blocks. Also for SHU, Keith Jordan Jr. tallied 12 points and six assists. For the Titans, Jeremy Jones scored 18 points while Taylor Brooks added 13 points and seven boards.

As a team, the Saints shot 23-61 (37.7%) while going 5-16 (31.3%) behind the arc and 23-32 (71.9%) from the free throw line. The Titans went 25-54 (46.3%) overall, including 8-19 (42.1%) in three-point land and 13-19 (68.4%) from the free throw line.

Next up, Siena Heights will travel to Aquinas on Wednesday for an 8 p.m. Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest.
