Football Opens 13th Season with Visit To Roosevelt

The Siena Heights football team will open its 2023 season at Roosevelt on Saturday. The contest is scheduled for a 2 p.m. CDT kickoff.

Siena Heights brings back three All-MSFA Mideast performers from last year, including two defensive linemen. That D-Line group includes First Team honorees Antonio Simley and Joe Wharton. A Second Team player from a year ago, wide receiver Eric Williams III, is also back.

On defense, Wharton was the team leader in sacks with eight. He had 41 tackles, including 11 1/2 for loss. Simley finished with 31 tackles, including 7 1/2 for loss, and four sacks.

Williams is a three-time All-MSFA player, garnering Second Team honors also in 2021 and a First Team mention in 2020. Last season, Williams was the Saints' leading receiver with 36 catches for 462 yards and three touchdowns. He also had seven rushes for 37 yards and a score.

SAINTS PICKED 5TH IN MSFA MIDEAST POLL

The Saints were ranked fifth on the Mid-States Football Association Mideast League poll. This comes one year after SHU tied for third with rival Concordia in the MSFA Mideast standings with a 5-5 overall record and 4-3 mark in league play.

OTTO NEW RADIO GUY FOR SHU FOOTBALL

Jeremy Otto will take over Siena Heights football broadcasting duties on 96.5 FM THE CAVE after previous play-by-play guy Chris Renwick's run from 2015 through 2022. Otto is no stranger to Siena Heights and the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference; he was a broadcasting voice for both athletics departments at Marygrove and alma mater Madonna. Currently, Otto is the play-by-play man for Michigan State women's volleyball and Detroit Mercy men's basketball.
